History/Lore: Snowflake Obsidian was first found over 2.5 million years ago in the Black Rock Desert located in Western Utah. The "snowflakes" that are visible inside the stone are actually a type of quartz. Obsidian is a volcanic glass formed when lava cools very quickly.
